A screen-time app designed with millennials in mind.

Problem

Nest is an app focused on screen-time and child monitoring designed for the millennial generation. Focusing on the generation's needs, the app targets to solve the problem of digital naivety and dependency.

Let's flock together.

Through conductive interviews, a list of generational issues regarding millennials was created. Feelings of being overworked and overstressed were reoccurring themes that led to a much larger problem at hand: the digital landscape. Is there a digital product that exists to target exactly millennial concerns? If not, what are the necessary components to create an effective deliverable? These were just some of the questions that led to the conception of Nest.

Concept

The Nest app specializes in screen time monitoring and parental control for millennial parents who need extra support when navigating the digital landscape.

Focusing on one of the app's delighter-feature, an item shop design was proposed. Working alongside a team that would deliver more of the table-stake features, this shop would serve as a supplement to those ideas by offering a selection of consumables that could be redeemed via in-app currency.

Taking inspiration from Bauhaus and geometric shapes, the UI prioritizes clarity and organization. Practicing shape language to convey imagery not only makes the design simpler in style but also more digestible for the user. With a minimalistic yet bold color palette, the design is able to guide the user's attention where needed.

Solution

Birds of a feather.

Creating the Nest app allowed for an exploration of both the user experience and interface. Designing with a targeted problem in mind allowed for a seamless process to reach an end goal that would satisfy the user's needs. Using components and variants within the design system made for a cohesive final product that when fully developed could yield an app beneficial to the chosen millennial generation.
